Interesting and useful website on Hohhot! A couple of questions for you.

    1. Do you know what are the two buildings recently built behind the Inner Mongolia Museum?

    2. I think that there is a new Art Museum somewhere in the new eastern part of Hohhot; I think on Erdos street, do you know its exact location, and if yes is it open?

    3. Hohhot used to have a team in the Chinese third division soccer league. Do they still have a team? If yes, are you aware of a schedule for 2014 games?

    4. Is there any other professional sport team in Hohhot?

    Thanks!

PS: tried to send an email at jill@hohhotinfo.com but this email does not appear to work.

Thanks for writing Joe. The email may have gotten mixed up when we changed servers. I’ll look into it. Thanks for the heads up. Now, on to your questions.
      1. The building just east of the museum is the Poly Theatre. Their web address is http://www.wlqtpolytheatre.com/. The building to the north and east of the museum is a science and technology museum (I think). If Suragch sees this post, he will have more information about it and perhaps can add additional information.
      2. I don’t know yet about the new Art Museum, but I’ll do some research and post as a blog entry what I find out. There is an Art Gallery just north and west of the overpass bridge in city center.
3 and 4. Here is the website for Inner Mongolia’s Sports Council. http://www.nmgsports.gov.cn/ I did some work with them from 2002-2004, but I know some of their sports programs have changed since then. I’m also not exactly sure how to define “professional” sports here. I would assume the provincial level sponsored teams would be considered “professional” but I’m not certain. If that’s what you mean they have basketball, a few forms of martial arts, track and field, equestrian events, wrestling, boxing, archery, soccer, and volleyball. I’m not sure how to find out about their events/competitions, but I’ll post them as I hear about them.
Also, there is a new “professional” Mongolian Wrestling League called Hasar. They have events often. I’ll try to post when I hear of the next one. I don’t know anything about the soccer system as far as how they divide the provincial or city level teams into divisions. sorry!
I hope at least some of my answer is helpful.

        Hi,

Thanks for the info. I think that the Art Gallery you are referring to has been closed for some time, I went to visit 2 or 3 years ago and it was closed already.

I tried to email but jill@hohhotinfo.com does not seem to work.

I will be in Hohhot later this month and I will try to attend one of your expat meeting.

The Mongolian wrestling was a blast. It was my first time and I thoroughly enjoyed the wrestling as well as the variety of musicians. Thank you for providing the details!

    Hi Weibaili,

Thank you so much for your forum. I enjoyed reading all those infor you posted although I am not a foreigner. I am Munggen (you can call me Adam if you like), a Mongolian from Inner Mongolia; and I can speak fluent English, Chinese, and of course Mongolian. I studied and worked in the US for many years, and was back to my home here at Hohhot two weeks ago. Now I have been thinking to establish my own small company.

I wanted to sign in using my Facebook account and downloaded some kind of software, but do not know why it did not work at all. It seems really hard to climb up the CHINESE GREAT WALL to log in my Facebook account. Is there any other way I can be a member of this forum?

BTW,I would love to assist anyone who needs help here at Hohhot area; feel free to contact me at: jinmgc@126.com if you need a translator, travel or business partner.
    Cheers!
    Adam

      Hey Adam,
Thanks for checking out the site. You should be able to sign in to the forum using a gmail, Hotmail, or yahoo email account. If you don’t have those, a paypal account with also work. I’m not sure how it will be to log in with facebook or twitter without a VPN. If you don’t have any of those accounts, let me know and I’ll see what I can do the change the settings. Also, you only need to sign up once, not every time. I personally can’t see your account information when you sign in, it just helps the site not get so much spam to have controls like the sign up process.

    Hello,

I ran across something about Wusutu Village/Temple(s) online the other day. Are there any readers who have been there and can comment on their experience? Any idea what a r/t taxi fare might cost (13 km outside the city, I’ve read). Thanks and I enjoy this blog very much!

    Hi,

For those interested in sports a new addition to Hohhot: a professional football/soccer team! The team will be competing in the second division of Chinese football/soccer. The season will start in March and the team will play in Hohhot Stadium northwest of the city. For more information see: http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/sports/2015-01/05/c_133898213.htm
